My art
Growing up in China, Lucy Yu seeks ubiquitous balance as she injects the oriental spirit into western technique, bringing together the past and the future. In her paintings, water blends the conflict between imagination and reality, seemingly outside the concept of time. Submerged in the waters exists the shock of natural beauty wrestling with the stress of a hectic world.
With watercolors as her medium, she uses the rich tones widely prevalent in western styles in a subtle harmonious way. The unique color blend embodies her tranquil elegance and sharp eye for manipulating the personality of color. “I try to reach beyond time and border,” she says, “where my paintings can speak to a pessimist about the rosy clouds and future above the deep blue, as well as to an optimist about the profound darkness that comes implied by a clear sky.
